Goolwa
Church of Christ
Welcome to Our Church in Goolwa
For over 120 years, the Goolwa Church of Christ has been a place where people from all walks of life gather to worship, grow in faith, and support one another.
We meet every Sunday morning at 10:30 am on the corner of Porter Street and Wildman Street, Goolwa, right in the heart of this historic river port town where the Murray River meets the Southern Ocean.

No matter where you are on your faith journey, there’s a place for you at our table.
What We Believe
At the Goolwa Church of Christ, our foundation is the good news that God sent his one and only Son so that whoever believes in him may receive forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life (John 3:16). All are welcome to experience the hospitality of God and the friendship of Jesus.

Jesus identified two commandments above all others: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength … You shall love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these” (Mark 12:30–31). These words guide everything we do — from worship to community outreach.

We strive to live in a way that reflects the life of Jesus, so that through our words and actions of love, others may know that the gracious hospitality of God and the friendship of Jesus are available to them. Our mission is to share the good news of Jesus in ways that resonate with contemporary Australians, inviting people into a restored relationship with our Creator God and a life of faithful obedience, marked by baptism in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:18–20).

Get Involved in Our Community

Our worship services begin at 10:30 am each Sunday. Many members of our congregation contribute through presiding, prayer, and music, creating a warm, participatory atmosphere.

We run several small groups throughout the week offering opportunities to study the Bible, pray together, and build deeper relationships. Bible study group on Fridays at 1:30 pm, on the first Thursday of each month a fellowship group meet for a meal at 7.30pm.

Every Tuesday from 9:30 am to 11:30 am (during school terms), our Friendship Centre opens its doors for craft, cards, table tennis, carpet bowls, and genuine community connection. Everyone is welcome — church member or not.

On the fourth Wednesday evening of each month at 7:00 pm, we gather for a reflective evening of praise and meditation worship.

Our congregation is committed to caring for one another. We have dedicated pastoral care teams and a phone and email prayer chain to support each other through all of life’s circumstances.

Once a month, we hold worship services at Sandpiper and Edenfield Residential Aged Care, a meaningful time of shared worship with local residents.

We work alongside other Christian churches in Goolwa through the Inter-Church Connect network, partnering on community initiatives including the Christian Book Store, School Pastoral Care Workers, South Coast Christian Community Care, and shared Christmas and Easter celebrations.

Getting here: Goolwa is located approximately 85 km south of Adelaide on the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula. Our church is centrally located in the township, just minutes from the Goolwa Wharf and Murray River precinct.

The Goolwa Church of Christ was founded in 1902 and has been a continuous part of the Goolwa community for over 120 years. The foundation stone of the first Church expansion was laid on 4 October 1964 by Arthur Neighbour, marking a milestone in our congregation’s growth.
Our church is led by a Board of Administration consisting of elected members of the congregation who work alongside our minister to oversee the ministries and business matters of the church. We believe that all Christians are called to use their spiritual gifts to minister and serve in the building of God’s kingdom (1 Corinthians 12:4–7).

David Spencer currently serves in a part-time ministry role, continuing the legacy of faithful leadership that has guided our church community for generations.
Whether you’re exploring faith for the first time, returning after time away, or looking for a new church home on the Fleurieu Peninsula — we’d love to meet you. Come as you are, and experience the hospitality of God and the friendship of Jesus at Goolwa Church of Christ.
Join us this Sunday at 10:30am.
